Houdini lookdev publishing - non-usd

What are people using for publishing looks out of houdini? We are currently evaluating ayon and an artist was wondering how the lookdev workflow works inside houdini. We aren’t using solaris so the usd lookdev publish is not something we want to use (yet). Are people using the hda publish? if so, how are you differentiating it from other hda publishes? if not, is there another built-in process I don’t know about? Thanks

Currently, to publish looks from Houdini. you have two ways:

  1. (Recommended Way) Use Houdini USD look publishing which publishes your materials layer (also textures). I believe you’ll find this the easiest way once you are properly introduced and got familiar with our AYON USD Contribution Workflow. You can always reach out us at Contact - Ynput to ask for training sessions and further support.
  2. You may already know this, but You can publish material networks as HDAs. (Keep in mind, that HDAs are version controlled via AYON but their contents are not…)
