Hi,
Bit of a weird one, but recently I updated one of my clients Ayon stacks, and we are now running launcher 1.5.2. When loading the client, going into launcher, I can see the list of projects and text ok. When I select the project, I get to the folder/application window, but everything is blank.
At this point, everything on my windows system is also blank, file browser, task manager etc. This was not happening when we were on 1.3.x, or 1.4.x, and this is not happening to any of our colleagues on Windows 11, but is happening to the 2 of us still on Windows 10 through their ESU.
I can’t pin it specifically on Windows 10, it’s just what is most obviously different. One solution would be for us to update to Windows 11 and mandate all future hires must be as well, but that’s potentially a bit overkill.
I just wanted to firstly check, is Windows 10 still supported with latest launch versions, and if it is, any ideas on what might be causing this and how we might debug it / fix it?
We’ve heard of this once before, which would make it a known issue that in some earlier investigation pinpointed to some font issue in Windows 10.
Windows 10 has been End of life since October 14th, 2025. What we’ve seen in happen in production since is that studios updated due to the lack of security updates for the older Windows build, which of course may be incrementally unsafe.
We haven’t officially dropped support for Windows 10, but are of the opinion that we will be announcing it soon though. It’s end of life. In practice for us with no clients on support and studios requesting it essentially means there’s no time or money to be spend the platform.
A ‘sponsored’ or community effort may take it along and resolve this issue for now, but the reality is that over time there’ll just be less testing on the older release.
Of course, if a simple patch makes Windows 10 happy we’d happily merge a contribition for it it if it doesn’t affect other things - and then we may just be Win 10 compatible for just some more time.
Hey Roy, thanks for the confirmation.
This particular studio is a freelancer / bring your own equipement setup, so it’s a bit harder to get conformity of systems but we’ll bear this in mind then.
For now I’ve done a roll back whilst we deliver a short term project and then we’ll see if we can push the freelancers on Windows 10 to 11.
I did try a launcher only rollback and that didn’t full fix the issue, so I reverted to an older bundle with other addons changing versions too, but don’t have time to fully narrow down the launcher/addon combination that’s triggering it, and if we move to Windows 11 there’s not a lot of point in it anyway.
Thanks!
Yes that does look the same.
We’re on 1.8.2, was looking to go to 1.9.0 as we’d updated addons but it was wanting launcher 1.5.4 which hadn’t automatically pulled down so I can try and pull the launcher manually instead to move forward then and pick this fix up.
