AYON in Maya 2023 - freezing every couple of seconds issue

Has anyone experienced an issue with launching Maya 2023 through AYON where the viewport, navigation, and UI keeps freezing every few seconds? Some people in our studio (though not all, as it works perfectly fine on other machines) have been facing this issue for a couple of months now. Launching Maya 2023 without AYON works perfectly fine without any hiccups—it’s only when launching through AYON that the problem occurs for many users. Launching Maya 2024 through ayon seems to work fine, so this issue appears to be specific to Maya 2023.

hey, I have seen it indeed but I really can’t remember what it was. You could use maya profiler to pinpoint the cause?

It was solved by @BigRoy on Discord. Here is his message posted this night:

Try disabling Maya’s autoLoader plugin.
It should not be relevant to AYON - but basically what autoLoader plug-in does it continuously crawls your MAYA_MODULE_PATH (e.g. your network if that’s where you store some modules) to see if anything new popped up and should be loaded. It was notoriously bad in older versions of Maya. If you had e.g. a folder that had a massive PDF then Maya would every few mouse clicks (or every so-and-so seconds) start to go over those folders and e.g. re-read that PDF. (I think Yeti originally had a 120 MB PDF in the module’s root folder?)

I can rant about it for so long but the slowness I haven’t seen as bad in recent Maya versions anymore - I think it still crawls, they just most likely do some caching, do it less often or skip e.g. PDF files Anyway, at least nowadays it’s also in this list of things that may lag maya: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Laggy-performance-or-freezing-in-Maya.html (but it’s near the bottom)
